Chiefs hit the beach
The entire Exeter Chiefs squad hit Exmouth beach today to take part in a lifeguard-cum-sandcastle building challenge!
For the last of these Friday afternoon sessions, billed as Unforgiving Fridays by the conditioning team, the squad split up into four teams.
Each team had 20 minutes for each discipline. They had to canoe out to sea and back, paddle a surfboard out to sea and back, followed by a sea swim.
The players were then required to put their creative natures to the test with a sandcastle competition. This resulted in a tank, a plane with Chris Budgen as pilot, a racing car driven by Eoghan Grace ... and a mermaid called Tom Johnson! The racing car won. Young holidaymakers and local children were then invited to play on the squad's creations.
The local and national media were invited to the session with camera crews attending from Sky Sports News and ITV Westcountry.
The players now have the next week off before making their final preparations for the pre-season games against Cardiff Blues, Cornish Pirates and Llanelli Scarlets, and then their first Premiership game against Gloucester.
