The experienced Australian international moved to Sandy Park during the summer of 2016, having spent all of his playing career to that stage with Super Rugby outfit, Queensland Reds.

A proven force at tight-head, both for club and international level, Holmes made his Super Rugby debut back in 2005 against the Blues in Auckland.

It was the start of an outstanding Super Rugby career that not only saw the player make over 140 appearances during an 11-year stint with the Brisbane-based club, but who he also helped to lift the title back in 2011 under the stewardship of Ewan MacKenzie.

Holmes won the first of his 27 caps for the Wallabies against France in Marseille in November 2005 - and he went on to feature in the 2015 Rugby World Cup alongside former Chiefs skipper Dean Mumm. Together the duo were part of an Australia squad that went all the way to the final, only to be beaten by arch rivals New Zealand at Twickenham.

Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter clearly liked what he saw in Holmes from afar and rewarded the Aussie with a two-year deal at the Devon club.

In a fantastic first season at the Chiefs, Holmes featured 23 times for his new club in all competitions, helping them to not only reach the Anglo-Welsh Cup Final, but also the Aviva Premiership final where they beat Wasps in extra-time at Twickenham.
