The Australian-born lock is now into his third season with Exeter Chiefs, having signed for them during the summer of 2015 from Scottish side Edinburgh.

His senior career started back home with Sydney University, before he went on to enjoy spells at both the Western Force and NSW Waratahs, where he was a team-mate of former Chiefs skipper, Dean Mumm.

Keen to try a new rugby experience overseas, Atkins took up the opportunity of a move to Edinburgh. He spent two years in the Scottish capital, featuring 25 times for the club in the Guinness Pro 12 League. He was also capped by Scotland A during his time at the club.

Scouted and then recruited by Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter, Atkins moved to Devon during the summer of 2015. He made his Exeter debut in an Aviva Premiership clash away to Newcastle Falcons that November.

A tried-and-trusted line-out operator, Atkins also offers a genuine physical presence around the park, running hard at the opposition and working tirelessly to ensure the Exeter pack get the necessary go forward to cause rivals no end of problems.

In March 2017, Atkins put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the Chiefs.
