Tighthead prop Patrick Schickerling first played rugby in his hometown, Walvis Bay, Namibia at the age of seven, later matriculating at Walvis Bay Private High School before ending up at Exeter Chiefs in November 2018.
Since then, as well as making appearances in the ‘A’ League and in the Premiership Rugby Cup, Schickerling had a spell on loan to Chinnor in National League One where on debut in February 2019 he was a try-scorer in their 48-35 win against Rotherham Titans.
Throughout Patrick’s rugby career to date, his parents Adrian and Waldi have provided continuous support. His dad, who represented South Africa at junior level, has been an especially big influence, inspiring Patrick to follow in his footsteps.
During the 2021/22 season Schickerling continued his rugby development on loan with RFU Championship outfit Cornish Pirates. However, Chiefs recalled the prop midway through the season and Schickerling made the most of his recall to establish himself firmly in Rob Baxter's first team plans at Sandy Park.
Not only did he feature in the Gallagher Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup, but by the end of the season he was called into Eddie Jones' England squad, featuring in the non-capped friendly against the Barbarians at Twickenham, before then touring to Australia during the summer.
