Flanker Maisy Allen has signed a new deal to secure her future with Exeter Chiefs Women.

A product of the player pathway through the University of Exeter, Allen has risen become a senior player in recent years despite still being only 22.

Recently shortlisted for the RPA’s “15 under 23” Women’s Team of the Year, Allen’s 2024/25 season was hampered by injury but is fighting fit to return for the new playing year.

Allen said: “Exeter is now my home, and that’s a huge part of why I’m staying at the club next season. Personally, I found last year tough; picking up back-to-back injuries made it frustrating, not just to be off the pitch, but also because I wasn’t able to give my all in supporting the squad within the usual day-to-day training environment.

“As a team, we hit some low points, so it’s exciting to feel like we can now only move in one direction. After falling short in finals, semi-finals, and, more recently, missing out on top-four spots, we know it’s time to get back to making a real mark on the league. The changes coming in give us a chance to do exactly that. I’m looking forward to building on the relationship I already have with Steve and I’m also excited to connect with Oli (Bishop) and the new staff joining the programme. I find being surrounded by fresh energy and new ideas is a huge motivator.”

She added: “Personally, I want my physical performance to be the best it’s ever been and to upskill my game, which in turn I hope will allow me to consistently perform and contribute to the new style of play we’re working towards. If we can re-energise and transform the way we play, I believe we can be back delivering some great performances at Sandy Park.

Allen has played 57 games for Chiefs Women following her debut against Harlequins in September 2021. She has scored 26 tries in total, 20 of those in league games.

Capped five times for the Red Roses, she made her senior debut from the bench against Canada at Sandy Park in September 2023, scoring a try in the 50-24 victory. Allen went on to be included in the squad for the inaugural WXV1 tournament in New Zealand.

Exeter Chiefs Women’s interim head coach Steve Salvin said: “Maisy had an unlucky year with injury, but I know she will put all that behind her ready for the new season in August. She trains hard, plays hard and is a valued member of our group. As the RPA shortlist proves, she’s also still a young player who has plenty of time to develop her skills even further to enhance her game. I am looking forward to seeing what an injury-free Maisy can do next season.”
