Three Directors of Rugby have had their exceptional seasons honoured by being shortlisted for the Ricoh Director of Rugby of the Season award.

Reigning Aviva Premiership Rugby Champions Exeter Chiefs finished top of the table for the first time ever, meaning Rob Baxter - who previously won the award in 2012 - takes his place on the shortlist.

And he is joined by fellow semi-finalists Mark McCall of Saracens and Dean Richards of Newcastle Falcons, the latter enjoying their best season since they lifted the title in 1998.

The Ricoh Director of Rugby of the Season shortlist:

  • Rob Baxter (Exeter Chiefs)
  • Mark McCall (Saracens)
  • Dean Richards (Newcastle Falcons)

The trio will now wait to see who takes the crown from last year’s winner Dai Young of Wasps at the glittering Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Wednesday, May 16.

The shortlist was compiled by the following panel – Alastair Eykyn (BT Sport), Nick Mullins (BT Sport), Sonja McLaughlan (BBC Radio), Sarah Mockford (Rugby World), Mick Cleary (Telegraph), Stephen Jones (The Times), Jonny Fordham (The Sun), Dave Rogers (Getty Images) and Chris Jones (BBC Radio), while Paul Morgan (Premiership Rugby’s Communications Director) chaired the panel.
