Beckerleg commits future to Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs lock Oscar Beckerleg has become the second young forward to sign a new deal with the club for the 2026/27 season.
The England U20s and EURFC lock has been part of the Chiefs’ player pathway since his time at Truro College.
Beckerleg said: “I’m incredibly happy to re-sign with Exeter Chiefs. The playing group is one that feels like it’s growing day by day, which is really exciting to be a part of. It made it a bit of a no-brainer decision to stay.”
The Truro-born youngster started his rugby journey with Penzance and Newlyn RFC’s under 7’s side before joining the Chiefs Academy while a student at the local college.
The now 20-year-old also captured the attention of the England age-grade selectors. In 2025, when he was called into the England U20s squad for that year’s Six Nations competition.
Chiefs' director of rugby Rob Baxter said: “Oscar has had an interesting journey in rugby in that, when he was first in our academy he was playing full-back! However, he’s one of the tallest guys in the squad, very athletic, so he’s made the move in the last couple of years to being an out and out lock forward.
“He’s had some success in the position, playing very well for EURFC and getting some England U20s caps. So, we’re expecting an awful lot from him in the near future.
“Oscar still has some more development to do, as he’s not had as much time as a forward as others. His physical attributes are incredible and his potential is fantastic. He’s got some areas to learn, but we’re confident that with time with us and time on loan to Plymouth Albion, he’ll get the best of both worlds.
“He’s a guy that, with regular game time, we expect to excel in the coming seasons.”
