Katie Buchanan will continue to play rugby in an Exeter Chiefs jersey after signing a new contract with the club.

The 21-year-old winger has committed her immediate future to Exeter Chiefs Women, making this her fourth season with the club.

Buchanan said: “I’ve learned so much already in my time at Exeter. I want to continue to grow as a player and I feel Chiefs is the place for me to do that right now. I can’t wait to get going with this great bunch of players again and see what the next season holds.”

Buchanan joined the club when she began her degree at the University of Exeter. She progressed from being a cup player to becoming a regular starting XV player in the PWR. The 2025/26 season should see her make her landmark 50th appearance for the club.

In the past three years, Buchanan has played 44 games for the club since her debut against DMP Sharks in September 2022 and has scored 17 tries. She also has an England transition contract, which supports aspiring Red Roses in their early professional journey.

Interim head coach Steve Salvin said: “Katie is a perfect example of the success of the university pathway. She began playing BUCS rugby in her first year, then started playing cup for us and then league, all while juggling her university studies. Last season was her first as a full-time player and she has benefited from having more time to concentrate on rugby. I look forward to seeing what Katie can achieve next season.”
