Exeter Rugby Club are looking to bolster their directory of former players ahead of a specially-designated day to be held in their honour in the New Year.

Deputy Chief Executive, Keiron Northcott, together with club trustee Ian Pugsley, are heading up the drive to boost the club’s numbers ahead of the annual Past Players’ Day, which will be held on Saturday, January 21 ahead of the Heineken Champions Cup encounter with Castres Olympique at Sandy Park.

Every season a specific match-day is designated to those who have pulled on the famous black jersey over the years. However, numbers have somewhat stagnated in recent times and club officials are keen to extend the invite to a much wider audience.

“Whilst we already have a database of former players, they are predominantly from two eras,” said Northcott. “It’s about time we expanding that list. Every year it is fantastic to see the former players all assemble to share stories, have a bite to eat and watch the current crop in action.

“However, we do feel there are a good numbers of players who don’t necessarily know about the game or other things happening at the club. By getting their details into our directory, we want them to know what’s happening in terms of the Past Players’ group.

“Our intention is to spread the word with not only players from the pre-professionals days, but also the more recent former professionals, some of which are spread all over the world. Some of our new ideas include setting up a specific area on the club’s official website, as well as creating social media accounts.”

Northcott added: “We want to make this a very active group with communications flowing both ways. I for one would be interested in what a lot of these former players are doing now and I am sure our supporters would be as well.

“Equally, this group is not restricted to former men’s players. Although women’s rugby is relatively new in the professional era, we would love to hear from former women’s players as well.”
