Cornishman Becconsall returns to roots with Pirates contract
Published on: 15/05/2026
Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Will Becconsall has agreed a move to Cornish Pirates for the 2026/27 season.
The 23-year-old has made more than 20 appearances for Chiefs since debuting in September 2022 but is excited to return to Cornish shores.
Becconsall said: “I’ve loved my time at the club. The players, staff and supporters really make it feel like a home away from home. I’ll miss Exeter, that’s for sure and I’ve made memories for life but I’m looking forward to next year being back in Cornwall.”
One of the highlights of Becconsall’s Chiefs career was an appearance off the bench in the 2023 Prem Rugby Cup final against London Irish at the Brentford Community Stadium. Chiefs emerged victorious that day, defeating the Exiles 24-20.
It was a proud moment for the young half-back who first picked up a rugby ball at the age of six at Falmouth Rugby Club. He had followed in the footsteps of his uncle, former Leicester Tigers scrum-half Garry Becconsall.
Progressing through the education pathway at Truro School and Truro College, it was during his time at the latter that the youngster was brought into the fold of the Chiefs academy.
Progressing through the player development pathway, he made his debut in a Prem Rugby Cup match against Bristol Bears in 2022 before going on to make further debuts in both the domestic league and European competition.
