Ethan Roots suffers short-term injury
Published on: 20/03/2026
Exeter Chiefs back-rower Ethan Roots will miss out on the return of the Gallagher PREM this weekend having suffered a calf tear.
Roots last featured in Chiefs’ PREM Rugby Cup win against Bath Rugby at Sandy Park stadium at the end of February.
He suffered the injury in training in the lead up to Chiefs’ semi-final against Northampton Saints. After scans, it has been confirmed Roots will be unavailable for selection for four to six weeks.
The injury will not require surgery, instead Roots will enter a period of rehab with the Chiefs’ medical team.
Meanwhile, Ben Hammersley and Ehren Painter have returned to monitored team training. Tom Hooper and Scott Sio are both in full training with the squad and available for selection.
