Exeter Chiefs Cycle Club head to Leicester

Exeter Chiefs Cycling Club set off from Sandy Park today to cover the 238 miles to Leicester to watch Chiefs take on the East Midlanders in the Gallagher PREM on Sunday.

The 12 cyclists set off at 8:30 today with Exeter Rugby Club’s chairman and CEO Tony Rowe CBE following behind in his bus, otherwise known as Doris.

The team will cycle through the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills towards Bath before staying overnight in Midsomer Norton. The second day will see them heading east along the Kennet & Avon Canal and then north to Oxford. They will cover the last 78 miles between Oxford and Leicester on day three.

By the end of day of the ride, the group will have covered a total of 2,856 miles across the three days.

The riders and their support crew will watch Exeter Chiefs take on Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Sunday - KO 15:30.

However, while all the participants are keen cyclists and rugby fans, the aim of the ride is to raise money for the club’s charity, the Exeter Chiefs Foundation.

Exeter Chiefs Foundation’s chairman Tony Rowe CBE said: “These rides are not for the faint hearted, but these cyclists are willing to put in the hard work to raise money for the Foundation. We are grateful for their continued efforts. They really make in difference in helping to improve the lives of people living in and around Exeter.”

This trip follows on from the club’s 10th anniversary ride from Salisbury to Stade Jean Bouin for Exeter Chiefs’ EPCR Challenge Cup game against Stade Francais in January, which covered 170 miles.
