Exeter Chiefs Women’s returning winger Sammie Harris helped Devon secure victory in the Gill Burns Division 2 County Championship.

Harris is set to return to Chiefs for 2025/26 having spent time on the invitational sevens and 10s circuit last season.

Born in born in Plymouth, Harris started playing for Ivybridge when she was eight years old before competing in track and field for several years and then coming back to rugby to play for Newton Abbot. She played her first game for Chiefs Women in the 2023/24 Cup.

Yesterday afternoon though she pulled on the green, white and black jersey of Devon, coming up against Chiefs Women’s physio Lottie Mountford, who was playing for Eastern Counties. Devon won 37-22 with both Chiefs women scoring for their teams.

Interim head coach Steve Salvin said: “We are pleased Sammie is returning to the Chiefs squad for the new season. As her great score for Devon at Twickenham yesterday showed, she loves a try-line. Her athletic background makes her a fast and strong player to come up against, and she always brings plenty of loud, local fans with her when selected!”

Harris said: “I am super excited to be back in the mix with Chiefs this season. Being back in pre-season has already shown me how much I’ve missed the environment of Premiership rugby. I can’t wait for 25/26 to get started and to be back in a Chiefs shirt.”
