Exeter Chiefs will kick-off their 2021/22 Heineken Champions Cup on home soil after European Professional Club Rugby today confirmed dates and kick-off times for the tournament.

Rob Baxter’s side, who will compete in Pool A, will open their seasonal account against French Top 14 visitors Montpellier at Sandy Park on Saturday, December 11 (8pm).

It will be the first of four European tests for the Chiefs, who have also been pooled against familiar foes in Glasgow Warriors.

After welcoming Montpellier to Devon in their opening Champions Cup fixture, the Chiefs will head North of the Border for the first of two tests against Danny Wilson’s Glasgow outfit.

The two rivals – who have met for three out of the last four seasons – will lock horns at Scotstoun on Saturday, December 18 (5:30pm), before they meet in Round Three at Sandy Park on Saturday, January 15 (5:30pm).

Exeter – the 2020 European champions – will then wrap up their qualification stage with an away trip to the GGL Stadium on Sunday, January 23 (6:30pm).

Once again, BT Sport in the UK and Ireland, and beIN SPORTS in France, will broadcast each of the 48 Heineken Champions Cup pool matches live, and this comprehensive coverage will be complemented by free-to-air transmission of key fixtures in each round by Channel 4 and Virgin Media in the UK and Ireland, and by France Télévisions in France.

The Heineken Champions Cup will be competed for by 24 clubs, including nine previous winners with as many as 38 European titles between them, in two pools of 12 over four pool stage rounds. The eight highest-ranked clubs from each pool will qualify for the knockout stage which will consist of a Round of 16 on a home and away basis, quarter-finals and semi-finals, with the final in Marseille on 28 May 2022. The clubs ranked nine to 11 in each of the pools will qualify for the Round of 16 of the EPCR Challenge Cup.
