Hooper extends Chiefs contract into 2028

Exeter Chiefs’ Australian flanker Tom Hooper has extended his two-year contract by a year to take him into the 2027/28 season.

Recently named in the Premiership Team of the Season after helping Chiefs to the Gallagher PREM Final, Hooper made a significant contribution to the 2025/26 season and has re-signed to the club a year before the end of his current contract.

Exeter Chiefs’ director of rugby Rob Baxter said: “We have been pleased with Tom’s input into last season, and I am sure that is related to how successful we were. We are delighted Tom will be with us for another two seasons.”

On completion of his extended contract with Chiefs, Hooper will return to Australia to play for the Queensland Reds ahead of the 2029 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Baxter continued: “We completely understand Tom’s reasons for returning to Australia. He is still a young man, his family and his roots are in Australia, and he wants to have a base there for his rugby and personal future. Until then, we will enjoy the next two years as Tom continues to develop his game in our domestic and European competitions.”

The 25-year-old, who made 23 appearances for Chiefs in his first season with the club and has 23 caps for the Wallabies, said: “I am stoked to have two more seasons with Chiefs. I have loved my first year with the boys and together we achieved more than people ever thought we would.

“Two years just did not feel like enough time to achieve what we all want as a group. Once some of the boys also signed up for the next two years, I did not want to miss out on trying to go one better in the Premiership alongside them.

“I also want to have a good crack at Europe before I head home. It’s an exciting competition and the opportunity to travel to new places and come up against different players.

“I want to continue learning from the guys around me. I’m already a better athlete and player because of this group and just trying to keep up with the fit young buggers. The culture is good too. It’s a special group and a very close-knit brotherhood, and one I’m excited to be a part of for two more years.”
