Young centre Sophie Langford has extended her contract with Exeter Chiefs Women to take her into the 2025/26 season.

Currently a part of the Chiefs player pathway and new Exeter Chiefs Women’s U23s squad, Langford has just finished my second year at the University of Exeter studying mathematics and data science. She has been a regular in Super BUCS league, playing at fly-half and inside and outside centre. Langford featured in both the 2023/24 and 2024/25 Super BUCS semi-finals.

University and Chiefs’ U23s coach Poppy Leitch said: “Sophie has brought a huge amount to the University of Exeter programme in the two years she has been with us. She is a competitive athlete that delivers passionate performances on a weekly basis.

“Sophie is now a senior player within our programme, and I know she will continue to grow into that role. I have had the pleasure of playing alongside Sophie in an Exeter Chiefs shirt and that makes me very proud. I know Sophie has a bright future, and I hope we see more of that this season.”

The 20-year-old made her Chiefs debut against DMP Sharks in September in 2022. She has played 18 games since that first appearance. She has also played for England U20s and U23s.

She said: “I am really happy to be staying at Chiefs for the upcoming season. The pathway is brilliant and with even more uni girls coming up, I am excited to get going and see what the season has in store for us.”
