Poynton available to Pirates for game-time

Summer signing Charlie Poynton has been made available for Elior Champ Rugby side Cornish Pirates in the coming weeks.

Winger Poynton joins fly-half Ben Coen in Penzance ahead of this weekend’s Pirates v Chinnor fixture at the Mennaye Field after the latter spent three weeks with Plymouth Albion in National One to cover the absence of injured players.

Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter said: “It’s great that Charlie has linked up with Pirates so quickly to gain himself some valuable game-time. He’s been with us for a few weeks now and has settled in well within the Chiefs set-up.

“Now the important thing is to get him as much game-time as we can to get him up running and playing. He’s an exciting young player, I’m sure he’ll do a really good job for Pirates.

“As we start to move towards the autumn international block, and what will be the PREM Rugby Cup block for us, getting game-time for as many of our young squad players will be very important for us to be prepped for those next rounds.”

The Pirates squad to face Chinnor will be announced at 12:00 today ahead of the game at 13:00 on Saturday, 17 October in Cornwall.
