Tom Price says he was honoured to be part of the Exeter Chiefs squad - and that he will continue to monitor the fortunes of his former team-mates after completing his move back to the Scarlets.

The 28-year-old lock has returned to Parc Y Scarlets after a two-year stint in Devon, where he made 10 appearances and scored two tries.

During his stay at Sandy Park, though, Price was part and parcel of Exeter’s double-winning squad of 2019/20, as well as helping them reach a sixth successive Gallagher Premiership final last season.

The 6ft 8in lock returns to Wales and to a club he knows well, having first joined them in 2015 from Leicester Tigers. He was a member of the Scarlets squad that clinched the Pro12 title in 2017, playing 13 matches during their championship-winning campaign.

However, he has paid tribute to his time with the Chiefs, saying: “I have really enjoyed my time in Exeter and learnt an awful lot from not only the coaches, but the other players as well. It’s a club that has a fantastic culture, on and off the field, and the way they go about their work in underlined with the success they have shown for a number of years.

“The team effort that we all put in during the height of Covid - to go on and win the double like we did - is something I’ve never seen before in the game. The way everyone bought into the training, especially when we were all away from the club, and then when we came back in, it was unbelievable. Playing two games in a week and everyone pushing each other hard in training, it really showed towards the end of that season and was rewarded with the two trophies we won.”

Price joins Will GriffJohn, Tomas Lezana and Scott Williams in joining the Scarlets this summer, but he says he will continue to keep tabs on his former club moving forward.

“Even though I’m over the bridge, I’ll still be keeping a close eye on the Chiefs and the games they are playing.”
