The Exeter Chiefs HITZ programme is continuing to deliver success stories, the latest of which has seen one of it's participants take up an apprenticeship role at the Exeter Trampolining Academy.

Tara Wibberley, who joined the HITZ programme last year after leaving Exmouth Community College, has been offered the place by the Academy's Head Coach and Owner, Polly Buzza-Johns, herself a former HITZ tutor.

Seventeen-year-old Tara had initially been studying Health and Social Care at College, but when a combination of personal problems and disillusionment with the course took hold, she opted to leave.

That's when she heard all about HITZ and the work they were doing locally to help youngsters in a similar predicament.

"I was studying at college and it was all very boring," she said. "It felt like I had to stick to one thing in life. I heard good things about the HITZ programme and when I met everyone from the team down on Exmouth beach, it was a very comfortable environment and everyone was so welcoming. It has been the best year of education that I have ever had thanks to the people at HITZ and how everyone is understanding."

The HITZ programme has helped Tara and many others develop a new attitude to learning, the fruits of which are there for all to see.

On a recent training session at Exeter Trampolining Academy, Tara impressed owner Polly with her attitude and ability and was then offered an opportunity to come and coach over the weekends. Since then, a formal apprenticeship offer had followed and will see Tara study at Exeter College, as well as train at the Academy.

"My plan is to finish my course here at HITZ, continue my training at ETA, then start my apprenticeship. I love HITZ and all it has done for me and I don't want to leave just yet!"

The Trampoline Academy was founded in September 2016, initially offering classes at leisure centres and schools around the Exeter area, before they set up their own base at Unit 6 in Apple Lane.
