Van der Velden to lead the Netherlands against Portugal
Published on: 27/03/2026
Exeter Chiefs Women’s lock Linde van der Velden will lead her country as the Netherlands play their first game of the Women's Rugby Europe Championship in 2026.
The women in orange will be looking to go one better this season after Spain clinched the title last year, giving them qualification for last year’s Rugby World Cup.
Although disappointed at the time, van der Velden has a reason to be more cheerful this weekend as she prepares to run out for her 25th cap at No 8.
She said: “It's always an honour to represent the Netherlands. To play my 25th official game at home on Sunday with family and friends is something that’s very special. I am grateful to all my past and present teammates and coaches, who have been part of the journey. This will be a proud moment that I'll truly cherish.”
The Netherlands play against Portugal at 12:00 (GMT) on Sunday before they take on Belgium at the Sportcomplex Sint-Gillis, Dendermonde, on Saturday, April 11. They will play their last game against Spain at the National Rugby Center in Amsterdam, on Saturday. April 18.
