Player interview | Merryn Elworthy & Emily Robinson

Published on: 05/06/2026

“We are lucky to have her in our lives as well as being able to play with her”

As Flo Robinson prepares to play her 100th game for Exeter Chiefs Women, best friend and centurion Merryn Elworthy and big sister Emily have some advice and observations to share.

Elworthy, who recorded her 100th game on the opening day of this season, said: “Firstly, it’s quite overwhelming, actually realising you have played 100 games for the club. It’s a pretty big deal. I think she will feel pretty overwhelmed but eventually it will all sink in and she will play how she normally plays, which is fantastic, and it will all be an amazing occasion for her.”

The Robinson family, and Elworthy’s too, will all be in attendance on Sunday to help her celebrate with Emily right beside her on the pitch.

“She’s brilliant, she’s a great competitor,” said Robinson. “We are lucky to have her in our lives as well as being able to play with her. It’s quite a privilege really. We just want to make the day a special occasion on and off the pitch.”

So…not a dry eye in the house then?

Flo Robinson has made her way to this milestone appearance through three years at the University of Exeter and her return to the club last season after a year away with Harlequins.

“She sets the standard in her own right. She’s always been a leader. Maybe not the person to speak the most but certainly the one to hold people accountable. She’s just brilliant. She’s a great person in the group; is really well liked.”

Elworthy added: “Not only is she a great person and really well respected. It’s that grounded game knowledge as well.”

Ask these two about the “ratty kid” Robinson off the pitch and both break into wide grins.

“She is a whirlwind of energy,” laughed Elworthy. “She is a brilliant person, a great friend. Everyone loves Flo! She’s nuts and she brings an awful lot of craziness…I don’t really know how to describe Flo.”

If you want to join the celebrations, come and watch Exeter Chiefs Women against Sale Sharks Women on Sunday (KO 15:30), tickets are available here. Tickets for adults are just £11 and £1 for children and young people aged 17 and under.
