Remembrance Service 2023

Exeter Chiefs gathered yesterday at Sandy Park to remember the fallen in a Remembrance Service.

Exeter Rugby Club CEO, Tony Rowe CBE was joined by Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, along with Commander Westwood (Royal Navy – Britannia Royal Navy College), Colonel Catton-Commandant (Royal Marines – Commando Training College), Captain Max Savage (British Army, 6th Battalion, The Rifles), Maurice Hayes (Royal British Legion Standard Bearer) and The Lord Mayor, Cllr Kevin Mitchell.

Club Chaplin Reverend Simon Atkinson oversaw the service, which included hymns ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Abide with Me’, the well-known poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ – delivered by Chiefs Women’s head coach Susie Appleby – and a reading from Rob Baxter.

Bugler Callum Budden (The Band of his Majesty’s Royal Marines) played the Last Post and Reveille to bring the service to a close.

The service was attended by all Chiefs’ playing and coaching staff as well as all Sandy Park employees.
