Moloney-MacDonald and Wall in Ireland’s WXV squad

Ireland Women's head coach Scott Bemand has named a 36-player training squad ahead of the WXV Global Series, including Chiefs’ Cliodhna Moloney-MacDonald and Dorothy Wall.

Both Moloney-MacDonald and Wall (far right above) were in preseason training with Exeter Chiefs Women until the end of last week and will head to Dublin to prepare for the upcoming tournament

Exeter Chiefs Women’s head coach Oli Bishop said: “We are hugely excited to see what Cli and Doro can do during the WXV Global Series this year. Ireland has a very physical series having to play South Africa and USA. Both Cli and Doro will be hugely important for Ireland’s performances as they both have an impact on Ireland’s physical game within attack and defence, so will be cornerstones to what they do. We’re very excited to see how they perform.

“They have been with us through preseason and have both trained extremely well; shown some great skills and growth but have also come away in phenomenal shape to be in a great place to perform at the WXV Global Series.”

Bemand has also selected seven uncapped players rewarded for impressive performances during the recent Vodafone Women's Interprovincial Championship.

He said: "The WXV Global Series is a hugely exciting addition to the international calendar and creates meaningful, high-level competition for players and teams at a crucial point in the season.

"Coming on the back of a strong Interprovincial Championship, this programme gives us the opportunity to bring together a talented group, continue to develop depth across the squad and provide players with important game-time opportunities in an international environment as we look to carry forward the positive momentum and progress made during the Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

"We're looking forward to getting into camp and beginning preparations for what promises to be some brilliant home games in Dublin, Galway and Cork before we head to South Africa for a two-test tour.”

Nancy McGillivray was unavailable for selection due to education commitments.
