Dorothy Wall after Exeter Chiefs Women's game

Wall reveling in the “steeliness” of Devon

Published on: 06/03/2026

Dorothy Wall will make a welcome return to the Exeter Chiefs Women’s line-up as they head into tonight’s PWR game against Gloucester Hartpury.

Despite media questions thrown at her about Chiefs’ loss to Saracens two weeks ago and the might of the reigning champions, who are also on an unbeaten streak this season, the Irish lock remained as composed as ever.

“As players, we're very aware of the strengths of our opposition but it's not something that needs to be repeated every day. It's very much a focus on us type of thing, and I know that's quite a cliche that probably every rugby player says coming into a game, but it is true.”

The Ireland lock equates facing Gloucester Hartpury to her experiences as an international.

“There were a few years there where we (Ireland) weren't rated at all and then slowly, with belief from coaches, belief in players led to wins that we didn't expect to happen. I've actually been through a process where blocking out the outside noise and having full belief works.

The 25-year-old added: ““There's a quiet confidence in Exeter and there's a kind of steeliness with this part of the country that I've come to know and love actually. I'm just really excited to play with the incredible talent, graft, spirit and character that's in this team.”

Rallying cry delivered! Thanks Doro.

For the Chiefs Women, this will be the first time they have played on a Friday night since September 2023, although they did play on a Saturday night at the same time two weeks’ ago. Again, Wall is typically unfazed.

“I think it's quite exciting for players and spectators alike. I think it's a great occasion. It excites me and I think it excites the rest of the girls here. We're looking forward to it.”

It appears Wall’s idea of a decent night out is indeed a physical battle at Kingsholm against the champions and a few of her Irish team mates too!

“I really enjoy the physical battle in every game. There's a lot of players like that on our team. How I can physically dominate or physically affect a gain-line either way is what I really look forward to.

“I think Gloucester Hartpury play a really nice brand of rugby; their skill set is lovely. They've got Mo (Natasha Hunt) and Lleucu (George) at the helm of distribution and attack, so they're good to watch and it's a nice challenge to try and sort through how you stop that really good-looking attack. They've obviously got big ball carriers everywhere.

“My own Irish teammates Niamh O’Dowd, Sam Monaghan and El Perry are among them. It's always fun coming up against your international teammates in this setting as well. I look forward to playing against my friends.”
