Hooker

Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba was Chiefs' second new signing for the 2025/26 season.

A standout performer for United Rugby Championship side, DHL Stormers who he had been with since 2022, the front rower was excited to settle into life in Devon.

The 29-year-old hooker joined Chiefs with the experience of a handful of Springbok caps since his debut in August 2021 against Argentina.

Born in Carletonville, South Africa, Dweba first picked up a rugby ball while playing touch-rugby with his friends which proved to be the catalyst for his love of the sport.

Since those early days, Dweba has experienced the highs of Northern and Southern hemisphere rugby. Before returning to his country of birth with the Stormers, the hooker played two years in the French Top14 with Bordeaux Begles.

A former representative of South Africa Schools as well as the Junior Springboks, Dweba honed his craft with the Toyota Cheetahs before his move to France.

In his debut season, Dweba made 26 appearances in all competitions and came off the bench in Chiefs’ Gallagher PREM Final defeat to Northampton Saints.
