60K Friend Challenge

Exeter Youth Rugby Club kicked-off the rugby season with the launch of their new crowdfunding initiative, the 60k Friend Challenge.

Developed to raise funds for a permanent clubhouse to be built on its grounds at Oil Mill Lane, Exeter Youth Rugby will fully embrace the power of social media and the local community to enhance its fundraising efforts.

Having recently received planning permission to build a new, permanent clubhouse on its rugby grounds in Clyst St Mary, Exeter, the 60k Friend Challenge crowdfunding initiative essentially needs 60,000 people to become ‘Friends’ of Exeter Youth Rugby and donate £5 each for the club to meet its £300,000 target.

Cheryl McGauley, Chairperson of Exeter Youth Rugby explains: “We’ve waited a long time for this to happen and have used temporary accommodation at Oil Mill Lane for many years now. So, it will be like a dream come true to build a brand new, permanent Club House there. We really want to provide the best for our young players and a permanent Club House with catering and showering facilities will provide a fantastic base for our wonderful players as well as visiting teams.”

As a club founded on the principle of ‘kids first’, Exeter Youth Rugby has always welcomed and celebrated players of all abilities, encouraging skills development through fun and inclusive coaching. And, the provision of a permanent Club House facility will enhance the rugby club for generations to come.

Launched at the first game of the season, Exeter Youth Rugby’s 60k Friend Challenge is set to attract a lot of attention.

Cheryl states: “This challenge is entirely achievable if everybody likes and shares our crowdfunding posts through Twitter and Facebook (www.crowdfunder.co.uk/60kfriendchallenge). We’re hoping that by cascading this link through our parents, sponsors and supporters and their social networks, we’ll reach enough people who are willing to donate £5 each and eventually reach our target.”
