Doidge helps England reach 7s World Cup

Exeter Chiefs Women's back Merryn Doidge played her part as England Women's 7s side secured their place at this summer's Rugby World Cup Sevens in South Africa.

The Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf in Bucarest, Romania, was the venue for some cracking rugby over the weekend as European men’s and women’s teams battled it out to reach the showpiece event, which will take place in the stunning setting of Cape Town, South Africa, between September 9-11.

The 21-year-old from Cornwall was part of a 13-strong England squad, who emerged from the tournament undefeated as they recorded victories over Romania (31-5), Italy (31-5), Belgium (36-0) and the Czech Republic (19-5).

England's success means they are one of 16 teams that will be compete in the tournament alongside Australia, France, New Zealand, USA, Madagascar, Japan, China, Fiji, Brazil, Colombia, Canada, Ireland, Poland and Spain.
