Exeter Chiefs lock Dafydd Jenkins will miss Sunday's crucial Heineken Champions Cup clash with La Rochelle after he was banned by an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday evening.

The Welsh international received a three-week ban, but received permission to take part in World Rugby's Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP) which will reduce the sanction to two weeks if completed.

He will miss the following games:

  • 30/04 v La Rochelle (EPCR semi-final)
  • 06/05 v London Irish
  • 20/05 Champions Cup Final or 05/08 Wales v England*

* both subject to successful completion of the CIP.

Jenkins received a red card for dangerous tackling contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13 during last Saturday's Gallagher Premiership match against Bristol Bears at Sandy Park.

The player accepted he committed an act of foul play, but challenged that it merited a red card, however, the panel - chaired by Sir James Dingemans, sitting with Mitch Read and Carl Bradshaw - upheld the red card.

As well as the La Rochelle clash, Jenkins will also means Exeter's final Premiership game of the season away to London Irish on May 6.
