Exeter Rugby Club are saddened to learn of the passing of Club President, Roger Pugsley, at the age of 84.

A hugely popular figure throughout the club for many years, Life Member Roger joined the club in the mid-1950s as a 16-year-old colt and would go on to play for every Exeter team in his career, including the First XV during the mid to late 1960s, and even turned out for the Colts in his late 30’s when they played a fixture against Dartmouth 2nds having found themselves a player short.

Following his playing days, Roger - who was a club member since 1955 - served as team secretary, ran the bars in the Memorial Club at the old County Ground, as well as serving on the club committee for numerous years.

Club chief executive and chairman, Tony Rowe CBE, said: "Everyone associated with Exeter Rugby Club send their deepest sympathies to the family of Roger, particularly his wife, Betty and children, Rob, Ian and Sarah.

"Roger epitomised everything that is good and great about our wonderful club. For years he has served Exeter Rugby Club with an unwavering passion and dedication which, I know, he was going to do even more in his role as president.

"Sadly, we have lost one of the great supporters and stalwarts of our club. He will be fondly remembered for all of his magnificent efforts over the years, whilst deeply missed from match-days here at Sandy Park."

Details of Roger's funeral will be made public shortly, after which we will publish through the club's official channels.
