Chiefs Family earns global respect

A week on from their European expedition to the South of France for the Heineken Cup clash with holders RC Toulon, the Exeter Chiefs and their Travelling Tribe of supporters have been receiving glowing praise from around the world.

On a memorable weekend for the club, the Chiefs Family as a whole showed why they are widely regarded as one of the best rugby clubs in the world.

Below, we have a letter from Mike Cooper, who underlines the glowing praise afforded to the club.

Dear Sir,

Although living in Milton Keynes I have been a supporter of Exeter Chiefs for many years, both club and playing style, watching them progress into the Championship at my local ground in Bedford. But having joined their Supporters Club I had the good fortune to be in Toulon last weekend with a ticket for the Heineken Cup match.

As for the game, I reckon the team performed superbly against the overwhelming Euro million stars of world rugby.

But to my main point, the good humour and behaviour of all Chiefs fans exceeded any experience of watching rugby around Europe. I've not laughed so much in any one day in all my nearing 80 years. From the war dances and whoops and hollers on the quayside before the game, to the outshouting of the Toulon fans, although at odds of 25:1, to drinking the bar I was in after the game dry of all beer!!

And some Exeter players even came in late into the evening to uproarious applause, despite one being on crutches!

From distant MK I'd like to congratulate all Chiefs players, coaches and club officials .... and especially their supporters ..... on achieving so much in such a short time at the top level.

Yours

Mike Cooper
