Rob Baxter says Exeter Chiefs' warm-weather training in Portugal last week was a success.

The Chiefs squad reunited for some time abroad before starting their full pre-season training this week.

Head coach Baxter was pleased to see his squad together again in Portugal last week, giving their large international contingent a chance to see everyone before going on their own summer breaks.

"The time in Portugal was really good and it was great to have so many international players back," he said. "Quite a lot of them had literally got off the plane from their tours, travelled back to Exeter and then got on a plane with us to go and have a couple of days meeting up with the rest of the players, showing their faces and giving us a chance to say well done for what they've achieved.

"Obviously a lot of the international players will go off on their holidays now as they need a bit of a break – when you think about, the last England game wasn't that long ago so they're going to have their break now.

"We're looking forward to cracking on with our pre-season with the other players though in what's going to be a very important year for us, because of what we did last year and we now need to speak about backing that up."
