Exeter Chiefs Women's prop Laura Delgado has been handed a three-week suspension after appearing before a virtual independent disciplinary panel on Wednesday night.

The Spanish international received a red card and was charged with Dangerous Tackling, Contrary To World Rugby Law 9.13 during the second half of last Saturday's Allianz Premier 15s game against Bristol Bears.

The disciplinary panel chaired by Sir James Dingemans, sitting with Meg Gardiner and John Doubleday, heard Delgado accept the charge.

She will miss Exeter’s semi-final against Bristol on Sunday and the final should Exeter progress. The remaining fixtures are to be confirmed once the player’s schedule is finalised or alternatively, replaced by successfully completing the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Process.

From the same hearing, Bristol's Rownita Marston picked up a similar ban after she was cited for Dangerous Tackling, Contrary To World Rugby Law 9.13 for an incident in the second half of Bristol Bears’ Allianz Premier 15s match against Exeter Chiefs last Saturday.

The player accepted that she had committed an act of foul play but challenged that it met the threshold for a red card. The Panel upheld the citing and awarded a three-week suspension.

She too will miss Bristol’s semi-final against Exeter on Sunday and the final should Bristol progress. The third week is to be confirmed once the playing schedule is known or alternatively, replaced by successfully completing the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Process.
