Over 80 girls were at Sandy Park today for a training day with Exeter Chiefs Women's Assistant Coach, Amy Garnett, and the Exeter Chiefs Community team.

Representing U13, U15 and U18 age groups and from five schools across Devon, the girls took part in a range of training drills before putting their newly-learned skills to the test in games of rugby.

The day was organised by the Exeter Chiefs Community team as part of Project Rugby - an initiative between England Rugby and Premiership Rugby which aims to grow participation of the game for people from traditionally under-represented groups.

Speaking about the event, Assistant Community Development Manager, Richard Bright, said: "We have been really impressed with the standard of rugby played today. The girls have all been involved in Project Rugby through their schools and since we started working with them in September, we have already seen huge improvements.

"We've already seen some great results with young people who have taken part in our Project Rugby programme, and hope to continue attracting more people to grassroots rugby."

Amy Garnett was also impressed with the skills on show throughout the day. She said: "I've already seen plenty of rugby talent in the region, but it's been great to spend the day with girls who might not have previously considered playing rugby. It's so important that we keep driving interest to the women's game from grassroots right the way up to the professional level.

"It's exciting to see the buzz around the women's game with events like these and the Red Roses returning to Sandy Park next weekend."

Over 8,000 tickets have already been sold for England v France at Sandy Park next Saturday, 16th November, however there are still tickets available at tickethub.exeterchiefs.co.uk
