Exeter Chiefs Women’s pair Abbie Fleming and Niamh Terry have both been named in Head Coach Warren Abrahams Welsh squad ahead of their 2021 Six Nations campaign.

Both players have impressed for the Chiefs this season, with both players making nine appearances for Susie Appleby’s side so far this season, Terry scoring two tries in her appearances.

This year’s championship will take place in an abridged format, with the six teams divided into two groups of three. Sides will play the corresponding team from the other pool in a placing playoff, dependant on their finishing position, after the initial two matches.

Discussing his selection, Abrahams was pleased with the balance within his squad after several tight calls for selection.

“Selection came with some welcome headaches. I think this is a very competitive squad and a nice blend between the more experienced players and players new to the squad or returning. All the selected players have really put their hands up, both in their club performances within the Allianz Premier 15s and in training with us. They all deserve their place and are looking forward to showing what they can do in the Six Nations.”

The squad will be captained by experienced back-row Siwan Lillicrap, with three potential debutants in the form of Wasps fly-half Flo Williams, Saracens prop Donna Rose and Sale Sharks scrum-half Jess Roberts, all of whom have impressed Abrahams in their performances throughout this seasons Allianz Premier 15s competition.

Wales have been placed in Pool B for the tournament and will begin their campaign away to France (Sat 3 April,) before hosting Ireland a week later (Sat 10, April.) Their final match to determine the standings will take place on April 24th, with the opposition and location still to be decided.
