Exeter Chiefs prop Harry Williams is set to be sidelined into the New Year after undergoing surgery on his elbow.

The England international sustained the injury during his side's Gallagher Premiership victory away to Bath last month.

Having missed the games against Saracens and Montpellier in the fortnight, the Chiefs were hopeful that the rest would mean Williams would not have to undergo surgery.

Sadly, that has not been the case, much to the disappointment of Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, who confirmed the news at his weekly media briefing.

Baxter said: “Harry [Williams] is going to be out for a little while. He has got to have an operation on his elbow. Initially, we weren’t sure whether it would require an operation, but it looks like it does."

Concerns over fellow prop Ben Moon have been played down with Baxter confirming he is “fine, fully fit and in full training.”

That is a welcome boost for the Devonians ahead of Saturday's Heineken Champions Cup away at Glasgow Warriors.

Baxter added: “We are looking pretty good, we didn’t pick up any new injuries at the weekend which is good and a little unusual for us this year. On the whole, we have come through pretty well."
